Research in TALENTS will be driven by the following questions, that form the basis of 12 projects addressed by our Doctoral Researchers (DC).
WP1-Initiate: What factors control where and when rifts initiate? How is rifting expressed in present-day observables such as horizontal strain rate, surface topography, and fault networks?
WP2-Break-up: What factors determine whether a rift successfully breaks a continent? How does orogenic inheritance control rift processes and architecture? How do lithosphere and asthenosphere interact during rifting?
WP3-Society: How do fluids, such as magma, groundwater, CO2 and H2 flow and interact with rock? How can we use this knowledge to facilitate the transition to a low carbon future? How does rifting control seismicity and how can this knowledge help us evaluate risks related to subsurface utilization?
